Koh Samui is the second largest island in Thailand and our first Thai island stop!
Relax. Swim. Read. Eat. Repeat. That's really all we did during our time spent here. We didn't even venture outside of the main road where our hotel is for a few reasons: For one, we felt there wasn't much else to do but lounge by the pool and beach, which we were perfectly content with! Second, we had a little apprehension about taking a motorcycle out on the roads (the ride from the airport was telling enough how crazy drivers are). Also, the prices here were ridiculous; it would have cost us a $30 round trip taxi ride just to go see (another) Big Buddha.
We stayed at a beach resort in our own little bungalow. The entire resort was nice, but it felt very reminiscent of summer camp - Kiel and I slept in separate twin beds surrounded by walls made of thin wooden reeds/pallets with cracks in between the window panes. There was a big, bulky television in the room that's probably from the 90's, and I got bit 10 times on the first night, so since then I'd been drowning myself in Deet.
Besides the coconut water which was great, the food on the island was been pretty 'meh' and over priced (we're used to our meals costing under $10, but here it's was at least $20). We tried most of the restaurants within walking distance to the resort, and returned to the same place for dinner on three separate occasions since it had the best flavors, portions and hospitality.
Next up: Ao Nang/Krabi!
