Siem Reap

 Greetings from Siem Reap!

It mostly rained and stormed on our last day in Phnom Penh so we just hung out at the hotel. We did venture out for lunch to Bahn Mi & Bros. (Kiel liked it, but I thought the bread in Vietnam was better), and then later took a rainy tuk tuk ride to dinner back at Friends the Restaurant. This was probably the best meal and our favorite spot in Phnom Penh.

This morning was our 9:30am pickup time to head to Siem Reap. The bus ride was a bit bumpy, but it was air conditioned and had wifi on board so we were content.

A few snaps as we drove through the provinces..

When booking our hotel for Siem Reap we had arranged for a tuk tuk driver to pick us up from the bus station. Sure enough as we got off the bus, there was a guy standing outside holding a sign that read, "Alyssa Kircher". Come to find out, he will be our trusty driver for pretty much the remainder of our stay here.

Siem Reap seems to be cleaner than Phnom Penh with not as much trash piled on the streets. The city is also a bit more developed and touristy.

We forgot we are technically on our honeymoon...until we arrived at our hotel room!

We took a tuk tuk to the Angkor Night Market & Pub Street where most of the action is - food stalls, restaurants, tons of shopping (clothing, trinkets, jewelry, random souvenirs), and many foreigners!

We ate dinner at a place called Pot & Pan. Kiel enjoyed his meal, I thought it was OK, and you can't beat 50 cents for a draught beer. After dinner we roamed around the market for a bit until I suddenly felt that weird feeling in my stomach (really I haven't been 100% since the food poisoning incident), and found myself running for the bathroom. Let's just say I am pretty much over the food in Cambodia...

Traveler tip: carrying tissues and disinfectant wet wipes is one of the smartest things you can do and has saved me on several occasions when toilet paper or soap isn't available in bathrooms.

I am sure we will be back to the market another day/night, but for now it's off to bed. We've got an early start tomorrow (4:30am!) to catch the sunrise at Angkor Wat.
